Dawson Creek homeschool students to stage humorous, meaningful Beauty and the Beast Jr.

Residents of Dawson Creek are invited to attend a play performed by 40 homeschool students at the end of April.

Dawson Creek TLA Homeschool Drama is presenting Beauty and the Beast Jr. at the Kiwanis Performing Arts Centre.

Director Cara Funk says the students range in age from five to 14 and are excited to perform in front of the community.

Funk adds the kids have been putting significant time and effort into preparing for opening night.

“It’s been really amazing to see their development in every area and for them to realize they can do something hard. I noticed their confidence building,” she said.

Funk says the show is meant for all ages, adding it was created with plenty of humour while also sharing a deeper message.

“There are so many funny parts, but there are also a lot of meaningful aspects around the theme of not judging somebody from the outside,” Funk explained.

Funk is inviting everyone to come out and support the students to celebrate their effort and dedication. She says the play allows them to be part of something bigger than themselves.

“As a teacher, it’s really incredible to teach kids who are excited to be there and are passionate about it. It’s not just another class,” Funk said.

There will be four shows at the Kiwanis Performing Arts Centre between April 23 and 25. Tickets are available on the KPAC website, with prices set at $20 for general admission and $15 for children under 12.
