Dawson Creek gets $50K from province to launch situation table, improve community safety

The City of Dawson Creek is one step closer to implementing a situation table into the community.

At the latest council meeting, the city reviewed a letter from Nina Krieger, the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General.

According to the letter, Dawson Creek is receiving a provincial grant worth $50,000 for a situation table.

The initiative brings together frontline workers from different sectors, including non-profit organizations, First Nations and the RCMP. The goal is to work together to help individuals and families at risk.

Situation tables often reduce pressure on police and emergency services, while improving community safety and well-being.

“The outcomes associated with this grant will not only address critical challenges but will also pave the way for lasting improvements in the quality of life for residents of Dawson Creek,” the letter said.

Part of the funding would be used to properly train local services involved to prevent crises before they escalate.

In 2024, Fort St. John received a grant of $75,000 to fund a situation table in the city.
