A community food drive is set to take place in Dawson Creek later this week, with organizers hoping to collect donations for the local food bank.

Westland Insurance staff, along with volunteers from Inland Auto Centre, will be at Save-On-Foods on 8 Street on Wednesday, May 27, collecting non-perishable food items .

The “Stuff a Truck” event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Organizers say the goal is to fill a donated truck with food to support the Dawson Creek Food Bank, while also encouraging community members to contribute what they can.

The event is part of a broader national food drive, with dozens of participating locations across Canada supporting food banks in their communities.

Staff and volunteers are expected to be on site throughout the day collecting donations and speaking with residents. A barbecue may also be offered during the event, depending on weather conditions.

Organizers say the initiative grew from smaller, employee-led efforts in B.C. and has since expanded to a country-wide campaign focused on supporting local food security.

Community members are encouraged to drop off donations at the Save-On-Foods parking lot during the event.
