The Dawson Creek Fire Fighters Association is raising funds to bring a “firehouse inspired” family room to the future Dawson Creek Hospital.

According to a social media post, the association is partnering with the Dawson Creek and District Hospital Foundation “to create a space that provides comfort, privacy, and support for families when they need it most.”

To help fund the project, organizers have launched a raffle featuring a Polaris Sportsman 570 ATV, with all proceeds going directly toward developing and furnishing the room.

On Wednesday, the association made an initial contribution of $10,200 to the hospital foundation from funds already raised toward the project.

The initiative was inspired by Captain Gower and his family’s health journey. The Dawson Creek firefighter was hit by a truck while on duty in October of last year and continues his recovery.

“Their experience highlighted just how vital it is to have a welcoming environment where loved ones can rest, reflect, and find support while navigating healthcare challenges,” officials said.

The Gower family, representatives from the Hospital Foundation, Mayor Dober and Councillor McDonald were in attendance for Wednesday’s presentation.

Raffle tickets are available through the Dawson Creek Fire Fighters Association’s Facebook page, or here, with a deadline of September 1.

“Not only will you have a chance to win an incredible ATV, but you’ll also be helping make a meaningful difference for patients and families in our community,” the association said.
