DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - The Dawson Creek Fire Department has been recognized for its commitment to inclusive employment.
The department received the Inclusive Trailblazer Award at the third annual Inclusive Employer Appreciation Dinner hosted by the Dawson Creek Society for Community Living.
The award recognizes businesses and organizations that lead the way in creating inclusive workplaces and employment opportunities.
The event celebrates local employers who support accessible, meaningful employment for individuals with disabilities and helps highlight the benefits of inclusive hiring practices throughout the community.
One employee recognized as part of the department’s inclusive workplace efforts is Jeff Schrock, who has worked mopping floors for the fire department for the past 30 years.
Fire Chief Marcel Capelle said the department was proud to attend the event and proud of Schrock’s contributions.
“The fire department is proud to have attended the event and having Jeff Schrock along each of the past three years has been an honour for the entire department,” Capelle said.
The annual event, organized by the Dawson Creek Society for Community Living with support from local community partners, recognizes employers who create supportive and inclusive workplaces in Dawson Creek.
