A family is searching for answers after a man from Onoway, Alberta was killed in an accident last Tuesday night in Arras.
It happened around 10 pm on Highway 97 South, near 235 Road. Colin Trimble was driving an F-150 Ford pickup, while towing an enclosed trailer. He was hit by another pickup and his vehicle burst into flames.
The 55-year-old was rushed to the Dawson Creek Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
On Wednesday, Trimble’s family started to worry when he didn’t arrive at work. They filed a missing person’s report with the Dawson Creek and Grande Prairie RCMP.
They also called the Dawson Creek Hospital at least four times, to ask if Trimble had been taken to the hospital. Staff at the hospital couldn’t provide an answer to the family, because the body had yet to be identified as belonging to Trimble.
Mounties said that Trimble’s body was at the hospital, but because he was so badly burned, he was not able to be identified. Police say at the time of the accident, Trimble was not carrying any identification. They add, due to the extent of the damage, the truck he was driving has still has not been identified. A team from ICBC is on the way to Dawson Creek to try and identify the vehicle.
The BC Coroner’s Service was finally able to identify him on Thursday. His partner was informed of his death at 11:30 am Thursday.
Trimble’s family says they are left with more questions than answers. His partner is left to take care of his six-year old son while trying to grieve and says, she wants answers and accountability.
Police say a collision analyst and reconstructionist team is investigating the accident. Mounties add that charges will be considered if grounds exist for them to be laid.
