The city of Dawson Creek is moving into Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures on September 11.

City officials said the city’s current water source, the Kiskatinaw River, is experiencing an unprecedented drought. Over the past 3 years, water levels have continued to drop, and now, the city is left with about 150 days of water in storage.

“Overall water consumption must be reduced to make it through the winter months without emergency support from the province,” said the city.

According to the Stage 3 Conservation Measures, a person:

  • Must use an automatic shut off nozzle when using a hose for any purposes.
  • Must not use water to fill, or refill, garden ponds, fountains, private hot tubs, or swimming pools.
  • Must not haul bulk water for fracking, including filling c-ring ponds, dugouts, or any water storage for hydraulic fracturing.
  • Must only water lawns on specific days depending on their address.
    • Even-numbered addresses can water lawns only on Wednesdays, between 4 am and 9 am, and 7 pm and 10 pm.
    • Odd-numbered addresses can water lawns only on Thursdays, between 4 am and 9 am, and 7 pm and 10 pm.

The city said all residents are required to follow the water conservation measures to help decrease the demand on its water supply.
