DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - Residents considering a run for public office in Dawson Creek can now pick up nomination packages for the 2026 General Municipal Election.
The Dawson Creek Elections Office says nomination packages for candidates seeking election to Dawson Creek City Council or the School District No. 59 Board of Education are available as of Friday, July 31.
Packages can be picked up at the city’s temporary administration office located in the Dawson Creek Mall during regular business hours.
The official nomination period opens September 1 and runs until September 11. Completed nomination packages must be submitted to the administration office during that time frame.
According to the city, Dawson Creek voters will elect one mayor and six councillors in the October 2026 local election.
Successful candidates may serve four-year terms and will be responsible for setting the city’s strategic direction, adopting bylaws and policies, approving budgets and representing community interests.
To be eligible for nomination, candidates must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years old on general voting day, have lived in British Columbia for a minimum of six months before nomination, and not be disqualified from holding office under provincial legislation.
The city has also highlighted several key election milestones.
The pre-campaign period began July 20, while the campaign period is scheduled to begin Sept. 19 following the close of nominations.
The deadline for voter registration with Elections BC is Aug. 18, although voters can still register through their local government after that date.
