Dawson Creek crime statistics up slightly in 2025 while homicides, shootings and stabbings down dramatically

The Dawson Creek RCMP provided an update to city council about crime statistics for 2025.

Staff Sergeant Rob Hughes said that overall, crime is up slightly compared to 2024.

Shoplifting files have increased by 20 per cent year over year, while mental health calls are up by 7 per cent.

After a rash of B and E’s in December, break and enter to business calls increased for the year by 58 per cent. Hughes pointed out that break and enters to residences was down by 10 per cent, over the same period.

While there were no numbers provided to council, Staff Sergeant Hughes said that homicides, shootings and stabbings were down dramatically from 2024.

Theft of vehicles reports were down 3 per cent however, theft from vehicles showed the biggest increase, up by 68 per cent in 2025.
