Dawson Creek councillors meet with Premier Eby over drought, water supply concerns

Dawson Creek city councillors met with Premier David Eby Wednesday morning to discuss the ongoing drought situation affecting the city’s water supply.

The meeting took place in Prince George at the BC Natural Resources Summit.

Mayor Darcy Dober, along with councillors Kyle MacDonald and Mike Sudnik, took part in the meeting.

The trio advocated for the importance of securing a reliable, long-term water supply for the community.

The city is planning on making the Peace River its new water source.

The Dawson Creek Water Supply System Project would involve building a water line, including an intake system, a pipeline from Taylor to the city, and pumping stations.

The city is expecting to learn within the next two years whether the project will be exempt from Environmental Assessment Certificate requirements.

Meanwhile, Dawson Creek has also renewed the State of Local Emergency until February 3.
