The race to become Dawson Creek’s next mayor is beginning to take shape.
City councillor Kyle MacDonald announced he is running for the job in this fall’s municipal election.
In a social media post, MacDonald said serving the community over the past four years has been a privilege.
“I’ve worked hard to listen, learn and build strong relationships,” he wrote, saying those experiences have given him a strong understanding of both the opportunities and challenges facing Dawson Creek.
MacDonald is currently serving his first term on city council after being elected in 2022.
Outside of municipal politics, he and his wife Gillian own and operate Tim Hortons restaurants in Dawson Creek and have long been involved in supporting local charities, youth programs and community organizations.
He is also a director with several community groups and organizations in the South Peace.

The announcement comes days after Mayor Darcy Dober revealed he will not seek re-election when voters head to the polls in October.
Dober said the decision came after a desire to spend more time with his family following a term marked by major challenges, including drought concerns and long-term water supply planning for the city.
MacDonald said he is proud of what council has accomplished during the current term but believes there is still more work ahead.
“I look forward to earning your trust, hearing your ideas, and working together to build an even stronger Dawson Creek for future generations,” he wrote.
B.C.’s municipal elections are scheduled for Oct. 17.
