City Council in Dawson Creek has approved a $3.6 million project to upgrade Kin Park.

The city is moving ahead with the splash park project, one of the first of its kind in Northern BC.

City staff said $1.8 million will cover the purchase of equipment, the design, and mechanical systems.

The park will use a closed-loop recirculation system, a newer and more water-efficient system. Staff said it will consume up to 1,000 times less water than the flow-through system often used in smaller or older water parks.

City staff recommended hiring a specialized company from the BC Interior to design and supply the project because of its complexity.

They added that there is no guarantee the project will stay on budget, but staff will seek a general contractor this spring to install the park.
