DAWSON CREEK, B.C - The City of Dawson Creek has completed a multi-year project to enhance and modernize the iconic Mile 0 landmark, marking the final phase of upgrades with the installation of new interpretive signage.

As the official starting point of the Alaska Highway, the Mile 0 landmark welcomes thousands of visitors each year and remains one of the city’s most photographed attractions.

City officials say the project was designed to improve accessibility, enhance the visitor experience and better share the story of the historic highway.

The upgrades included refurbishment of the Alaska Highway sign and Mile 0 marker, improvements to site accessibility and layout, the removal of outdated amenities and signage, new lighting, and a series of interpretive displays that provide visitors with a year-round self-guided experience.

The newly installed signs tell the story of the Alaska Highway and Dawson Creek’s role as Mile 0 while creating a cleaner and more welcoming space for visitors.

City officials say the renewed landmark offers a more engaging experience for residents and tourists alike while continuing to celebrate Dawson Creek’s important connection to one of North America’s most significant transportation routes.

With the final interpretive signs now in place, the project is officially complete, ensuring the Mile 0 marker remains a prominent attraction for visitors travelling the Alaska Highway.
