DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - The Dawson Creek Canucks remain undefeated to start the 2026 North West Junior Hockey League season after a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory over the Grande Prairie Athletics Thursday night.

The Canucks improved to 3-0 on the season after Wes Shipton scored the winner just 52 seconds into overtime.

Shipton finished with two goals and an assist, while Alex Hanson and Branden Rowley each recorded a goal and an assist.

Aiden Craig-Steele added the game-tying goal on a third-period power play to force overtime.

Dawson Creek carried a 3-1 lead midway through the second period before Grande Prairie rallied with three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 advantage.

The Canucks answered late in regulation when Craig-Steele found the back of the net with 6:51 remaining, setting the stage for Shipton’s overtime heroics.

The Athletics controlled much of the play, outshooting the Canucks 55-35.

However, Dawson Creek netminder Landon Hatton turned aside 51 shots and posted a .927 save percentage to backstop the victory.

The win keeps Dawson Creek alone atop the NWJHL standings and one of only two undefeated teams in the league.

Manning is also unbeaten, although the Comets have played just one game. Based on the standings provided by the league.

The Canucks will look to extend their winning streak on Saturday when they travel to Valleyview to face the Valleyview Jet
