The Dawson Creek Canucks’ annual Teddy Bear Toss game was held on Saturday, with the Manning Comets in town for the occasion.

A shower of teddy bears rained down onto the ice after Canucks defenseman Kevin Swales scored the first goal of the game.

Play-by-play commentator Erik Nelson said the Teddy Bear Toss is one of his favourite hockey traditions.

“Events like these are important for the community – and especially for the kids,” Nelson said.

He added that the attendance was strong, which made the night even more special to be part of.

Canucks coach Marcel Capelle said all teddy bears collected are donated to the Vancouver Children’s Hospital.

That goal kicked off a high scoring affair, with the teams combining for 19 goals. Dawson Creek came out on top, 12-7.

On Friday, the Canucks also defeated the Grand Prairie Athletics. With those two wins, Dawson Creek now stands alone at the top of the NPHL standings.
