According the Dawson Creek RCMP, the crime rate is continuing to fall from its peak in 2023.
The June crime numbers are part of a report presented to Dawson Creek City Council on Monday, by Staff Sergeant Rob Hughes. The report contained a side by side analyst of the number of crimes in the first six months of 2025, compared to the same time frame from the previous year.
Theft of vehicles have decreased by 30%, from 63 in 2024 to 44 in 2025. However police add that theft from vehicles have increased by 79%, from 19 in 2024 to 34 so far this year.
The report also shows a decrease from 30 to 20 calls for break and enter to residence, as well as a decrease from 29 to 10 calls, for break and enter to business.
The city saw a 129% increase in drug possession and drug trafficking calls in 2025 for total of 16 this year. The report also shows 72 impaired driving calls this year, an increase of 60%
The Dawson Creek RCMP says property crime and mental health issues are still the reason for most of the calls.
Mounties say they are still seeing an overall decrease in crime in Dawson Creek. They add that the amount of charges that have been laid lately, has contributed to that decrease.
Staff Sergeant Hughes said that groups like Citizens Take Action, Rural Crime Watch and Citizens on Patrol have also been a big help in reducing property thefts.
