The Mine Rescue and First Aid teams from Conuma Resources are getting recognized for their performance at the 2025 North Central South (NCS) Zone Competition in Squamish.

“Our Mine Rescue teams exemplify the very best of who we are, not just through their impressive performance at competitions, but in the way they show up for our communities. Their commitment to excellence, safety, and service reflects a deep sense of responsibility and pride. We couldn’t be prouder of this team and the leadership they demonstrate on and off our sites,” said Svend Nielsen, Director, Health & Emergency Response at Conuma.

The Surface Mine Rescue Team showcased their skills in many challenging events, like rope rescue, firefighting, and first aid. They won the Task Award for Best Rope Task, Best Field Task, and Best Aggregate.

Despite the amazing performance, the team just failed to qualify for the provincial competition. They fell short by 8 points out of a possible 1800.

The Mine Rescue Team is composed of Captain Shane Muise, Vice Captain Chris Taylor, Adam Baron, Steve Terry, Taylor Olsen, Adam Hall, and Alex Poworoznik.

The Conuma First Aid Team, composed of Captain Taylor Olsen, Adam Hall, Alex Poworoznik and Selena Logue, earned a spot at the BC Provincials. They finished at the top of the standings. The provincials were held on June 7, and the team placed third overall.

Taylor Olsen won awards for Best Written and Best Captain at the NCS competition, and Selena Logue was awarded Best Spare Written at both the NCS competition and the provincials.

The Conuma Mine Rescue teams have provided help to the BC Wildfire Service for two emergency events this year, including the Mast Road Wildland Fire in May, and the Tumbler Ridge Structure Fire in June.
