DAWSON CREEK. B.C. - The City of Dawson Creek has awarded a two-year contract for its new Economic Development and Investment Lead position to Unify Partners, a move council says will help advance economic growth, attract investment and support local businesses.
The approval follows what the city says was a competitive procurement process. The consulting firm will provide economic development services on behalf of the city for the next two years.
The Unify Partners is expected to focus on investment attraction, business retention and expansion, workforce development, strategic partnerships and promoting Dawson Creek’s economic opportunities.
The role is intended to provide specialized expertise while building relationships with businesses, investors, Indigenous communities, funding agencies and regional partners.
Economic development was identified as a key priority within council’s 2022-2026 Strategic Priorities, particularly in support of the airport, tourism sector and a vibrant downtown.
Council approved funding for the position during the 2026 budget process after reviewing various service delivery models in late 2025.
The city budgeted $160,000 annually for expanded economic development services. Of that, $110,000 per year was earmarked for consulting services, while the remaining funding was set aside for expenses such as travel, conferences and marketing initiatives.
Unify Partners submitted a proposal worth $95,000 per year, for a total contract value of $190,000 over the two-year term before taxes. The bid came in $30,000 below the amount budgeted for consultant services over the same period.
The report states the successful proponent demonstrated extensive experience in economic development, investment attraction, workforce development and partnership building, while also showing a strong understanding of Dawson Creek’s economic priorities.
City staff will now finalize the agreement and work with the consultant to develop priorities and an annual work plan aimed at advancing council’s economic development objectives.
