The emergency department at the Chetwynd Hospital and Health Centre has reopened after “staffing challenges” forced another overnight diversion on Wednesday.

The service interruption was announced on social media at 7:09 p.m., nine minutes after it began. According to Northern Health, services were diverted starting at 7:00 p.m. on February 26 and resumed at 8:00 a.m. this morning.

This marks the second time this month that the ER has been closed, following an 18-hour interruption on Tuesday.

Northern Health did not specify whether the closures are due to doctor or nursing shortages.

Residents in need of life-saving medical care were advised to call 9-1-1 to be transported to the nearest available hospital.

“Any time services are interrupted, our partners in patient transfer and local health services are notified and signage will be in place at the hospital informing patients to call 9-1-1 for transport,” says Northern Health.
