Charlie Lake junior rodeo athlete qualifies for prestigious international competition in Oklahoma

A Charlie Lake junior rodeo athlete is heading to the international stage after qualifying for the National Junior High School Rodeo Finals in Oklahoma.

Caitlyn Kelly has earned a spot at the prestigious competition, which runs from June 21st to 27th.

The event is recognized as the world’s largest junior rodeo, featuring more than 1,200 participants from across the United States, Canada, Australia and Mexico. Kelly will be one of only three athletes from British Columbia taking part.

Kelly says she began riding before she could walk and has been around horses for as long as she can remember.

“What began as a love for horses has grown into a passion for rodeo and becoming the best athlete and horseman I can be,” she said.

Her qualification, which is considered an outstanding accomplishment, comes after an impressive season of competition, where she established herself as one of the top junior rodeo athletes in the region.

The grade 8 student is now seeking sponsorship support to help cover costs including travel, horse transportation, entry fees and equipment.

Kelly says representing B.C. at nationals is an incredible opportunity and a dream come true.

The event will be streamed live on FloRodeo for those wanting to follow and show support.
