DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - The annual Battle of the North chuckwagon races have wrapped up at the Dawson Creek Exhibition & Stampede, with Chanse Vigen claiming the 2026 championship title after a strong performance in Sunday night’s final heat.
Driving the Volker Stevin Canada outfit alongside outriders Rory Gervais and Tyler DeSutter, Vigen recorded a penalty-free time of 1:17.13 in the championship final to secure the crown and a $15,000 bonus cheque.
The victory marks his second Battle of the North championship, having previously won the event in 2019.
The championship race proved to be a close contest. Jason Glass finished second, just 0.27 seconds behind Vigen, while aggregate winner Jamie Laboucane placed third. Obrey Motowylo rounded out the championship heat in fourth place.
Earlier in the evening, Layne Flad was presented with the Kenn Borek Memorial Most Sportsmanlike Driver Award.
The 2026 WPCA Pro Tour season now heads to Rocky Mountain House for its final stop, the WPCA World Chuckwagon Finals at the Battle of the Rockies, scheduled for August 12 to 16.
The Battle of the North is one of the marquee attractions of the Dawson Creek Exhibition & Stampede, often referred to as the “Greatest Show in the Peace.”
