Celebration of life planned in Tumbler Ridge for Kylie Smith, 12, killed in school shooting

Families of the victims of last week’s mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge have begun the painful process of saying goodbye.

A post from a funeral home states that a celebration of life is planned this weekend for Kylie Smith who was just 12 years old.

Kylie was one of the students killed inside the school last Tuesday.

“She was just a beautiful soul. She loves art and anime. She wanted to go to school in Toronto, and we just loved her so much. She was thriving in high school,” her dad, Lance Younge, said. “She never hurt a soul.”

The gathering is taking place at Trend Mountain Conference Centre at 2 pm Saturday.

The event will be open only to Tumbler Ridge residents, friends and families.

“The family of Kylie wishes to extend their deepest and most heartfelt thank-you to everyone who has shown love, support, and kindness during this incredibly difficult time,” the obituary reads.
