DAWSON CREEK, B.C. - Dawson Creek residents will get a chance to hear directly from the city’s mayoral candidates tonight as a public debate takes place ahead of the 2026 municipal election.
The ‘Know Before You Go” Mayoral Candidate Debate is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, at Co-op Mercer Hall, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
The debate is intended to give residents an opportunity to get to know the candidates and hear their perspectives on a range of important municipal issues ahead of the October 17 civic elections.
The event comes as two candidates have officially announced campaigns to replace outgoing Mayor Darcy Dober, who is not seeking another term after serving one term at City Hall.
Current city councillor Kyle MacDonald announced his candidacy in June, citing his four years on council and his commitment to helping guide Dawson Creek’s future.
Longtime Dawson Creek resident Dwain Dilworth is also in the race, saying he wants to provide leadership built on integrity, accountability and hard work while engaging residents on their vision for the community.
Tuesday’s debate is expected to give voters one of their first opportunities to compare the mayoral hopefuls side-by-side and hear how they would address the challenges and opportunities facing the city.
Attendees are asked to enter Co-op Mercer Hall through the lower lobby doors adjacent to the Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre entrance. Parking is available in the aquatic centre .
