Residents in Dawson Creek may notice a small military presence in the community this week as members of the Canadian Armed Forces carry out a planned training exercise.

The exercise, involving personnel from 1 Service Battalion, is scheduled to take place from May 26 to 28.

According to a public service announcement, between six and 10 military members will be in the area conducting reconnaissance and planning activities.

Personnel may be seen in uniform travelling in civilian-style vehicles and staying at local accommodations.

Officials say the exercise has been coordinated in advance with local authorities and is not connected to any emergency situation.

No disruptions to public safety or community services are expected during the training exercise.

The Canadian Armed Forces says the training helps ensure members remain prepared to support provinces and territories during domestic operations if called upon.
