A building in downtown Fort St John had to be evacuated Tuesday morning after reports of the smell of natural gas.
The Fort St. John Fire Department was called to Pioneer Square on 100th Avenue just after 9am. Deputy Fire Chief Matt Troiano said they received a report of the smell of natural gas condensate, which smells like liquified natural gas.
Fire fighters entered the building and conducted air quality reading. They determined there was no gas leak and that it was safe to allow people back inside the building.
Triano said the smell occurs every once in a while, in Fort St. John. He added it often comes from industrial vehicles passing through the city.
