Blueberry River First Nations has responded to a judicial review filed by former Chief Judy Desjarlais seeking to delay the upcoming election.

The First Nation said in a statement that during today’s hearing, a judge ruled the application was an abuse of process and dismissed it.

Following the ruling, the First Nation said the election nomination meeting will be held as planned on December 3. The elections are scheduled for January 12 and 13.

Desjarlais said the judge in this case noted her ability to run in the next election will be decided during her judicial review set for December 4 and 5.

This comes after Desjarlais announced on Friday that she will be running in the upcoming election. she said elders and band members have encouraged her to run.
