The BC Centre for Disease Control has confirmed six new cases of measles in the Northern Health region, increasing the total to 181.

Health officials said Interior Health and Fraser health have also added one case each to their count.

Provincewide, the BC CDC said there’s 250 measles cases, adding that 214 come from people not vaccinated against the virus.

The province said there is currently seven active measles cases in BC, and six are found in the Northern Health region.

Medical experts say the best way to protect yourself after exposure to measles is to get vaccinated with the MMR vaccine. You can contact your local health unit to schedule a vaccination appointment.
