The BC Centre for Disease Control has updated the amount of probable measles cases across Northern BC.
Health officials are reviewing two new active measles cases across the region, currently reported as probable. However, the BC CDC has not included them to the region’s total count of confirmed cases.
The total for the Northern Health region remains at 91confirmed measles cases, while the number of probable cases has increased to 18. Northern BC continues to be the only region with probable cases.
The BC CDC confirmed five new measles cases elsewhere in the province. The Fraser health region added four confirmed cases to its total, while the BC Interior added one new confirmed active case.
Health officials said the total of confirmed measles cases is now 136 across BC. They added that all new cases involve people who were not vaccinated against measles.
Those who have been exposed to the measles are being asked to stay home and self-isolate for at least four days after a rash first appears.
Medical experts say the best way to protect yourself if you have been exposed to measles is to get vaccinated with the MMR vaccine. You can contact your local health unit to schedule a measles vaccination appointment.
