After a brief slowdown in measles cases last week in BC, the Northern Health region is once again leading the province with the largest increase in confirmed cases, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control’s latest update.

The BC CDC confirmed 19 new cases of measles across the Northern Health region, bringing its total to 110. On Thursday, the BC CDC reported that the region had no new confirmed cases and only two probable ones.

Health officials also confirmed one new case each in Interior Health and Vancouver Coastal Health. They noted that the case in the Interior region is currently active.

The BC CDC confirmed that 20 of the new cases involved people who were not vaccinated against the virus. The total of measles cases in BC is now 157.

Medical experts say the best way to protect yourself after exposure to measles is to get vaccinated with the MMR vaccine. You can contact your local health unit to schedule a vaccination appointment.
