The BC Centre for Disease Control has confirmed seven new cases of measles across the province, increasing the total to 257.

According to Thursday’s update, all seven cases have been reported in the Northern Health region. That brings the count there to 188, and health officials said there is also one case considered active in that region.

The BC CDC noted that 88 percent of cases were not immunized prior to contracting the virus.

Medical experts continue to say the best way to protect yourself after exposure to measles is to get vaccinated with the MMR vaccine. You can contact your local health unit to schedule a vaccination appointment.
