Arson investigations lead to multiple arrests in Prince George, RCMP say

Multiple suspects have been identified and arrested in Prince George as Mounties continue investigating three arson fires that occurred in the city over the past month.

Prince George RCMP said the arrests stem from two of the three investigations.

The first fire occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on May 10 in the 1700 block of Third Avenue, where police said property damage was “minimal” after the blaze was spotted and reported shortly after it started.

Mounties said investigators are continuing to gather information as they work to identify a suspect in the case.

In the second case, police said surveillance video helped investigators identify a suspect following a fire near the 1200 block of Fourth Avenue on May 18.

The suspect was later arrested and released pending a future court appearance.

Police said the third fire happened just before 8:30 a.m. on May 27 near the 2100 block of Norwood Street and was quickly deemed suspicious.

After witnesses reported seeing three people run away from the scene, officers were able to locate and arrest them nearby.

All three suspects have since been released with future court dates, Mounties said.

“Currently, there is no indication these fires are related,” Cpl. Jennifer Cooper said in a news release on Thursday. “We would like to extend our thanks to all those who have provided video surveillance and information regarding these incidents. These types of investigations rely on members of the public coming forward with information quickly.”

RCMP said the investigations remain ongoing.
