“Are we out of the woods? Maybe” Maya Gebala’s mom provides positive update on Tumbler Ridge shooting victim

An update on the status of Maya Gebala was shared on social media by her mother.

Maya’s mom Cia Edmonds said, “She’s aware and seemingly stable. Are we out of the woods? Maybe.”

The 12-year-old was severely injured after the mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, that left nine people dead, including the shooter

Cia added, “With the looming fear of darkness subsiding, we can finally consider life and what it may look like.”

Cia concluded the post by writing that Maya’s sister Dahlia laid on Maya’s stomach during a recent visit. Maya responded by putting her hand on Dahlia.

Cia called it " a beautiful moment."

Maya was transferred out of the intensive care unit at Children’s Hospital in Vancouver at the end of March.
