The Peace River Regional District has cancelled all Evacuation Orders and Alerts issued for the Pocket Knife Creek Wildfire.

After days of rain, the BC Wildfire Service said that fire activity has diminished considerably. The blaze is one of three ‘Wildfires of Note’ and is the largest wildfire in British Columbia at 151,844 hectares in size.

According to the PRRD, the Evacuation Order was changed to an Evacuation Alert on Friday. On Monday afternoon, the regional district cancelled all remaining Alerts.

The BC Wildfire Service still has an “Area Restriction’ in place for the fire. The Alaksa Highway has been re-opened to traffic near Buckinghorse River.

The fire was discovered on May 17th and was brought under control on May 27th. Due to hot temperatures and high winds, the fire started burning out of control once again.
