Alberta’s population is projected to surpass British Columbia’s in the next 25 years to become the third largest province in the country.
Under a medium growth range, Statistics Canada has Alberta reaching a population of 7.2 million by 2050.
It also projects the Canadian population to top 57 million by 2075.
The agency says the demographic weight of higher-growth provinces like Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba will go up.

Right now the provinces with the highest populations are Ontario, Quebec, and B.C.
Stats Canada clarified that population projections are not predictions, but rather scenarios based on current trends and plausible future developments. The projections consider recent demographic trends, including historically low fertility rates and changes to immigration and temporary resident policies.
