TAYLOR, B.C. - Police say a 21-year-old Alberta driver has lost her vehicle for seven days after she was nabbed doing double the speed limit in northern British Columbia.

The B.C. Highway Patrol said in a news release Thursday the woman “learned the hard way” that officers are “watching for excessive speeders in all corners of the province.”

Police clocked the driver travelling 142 km/h in a 70 km/h zone near the community of Taylor on August 13, according to the release.

The woman’s black Chevrolet Trax was stopped and ordered impounded at the driver’s expense for seven days, police said.

The driver, who police said is from the community of Athabasca, Alta., was handed a $483 ticket for excessive speeding, and will incur at least three years of high-risk driver premiums and escalating insurance “that will bring the total costs to over $2,000,” the release said.

“If the monetary cost of excessive speeding doesn’t bother you, consider the hassle,” Sgt. Michael McLaughlin said in a statement.

“Nobody wants to be calling for a ride on the side of a rural highway. Better decision-making will make your life safer and more convenient.”
