Drive B-C says a portion of the Alaska Highway, west of Fort Nelson remains open to single-lane alternating traffic.

It comes a day after a report issued by the federal body Public Services and Procurement Canada said, the highway had closed after thousands of litres of fuel spilled south of Muncho Lake.

BC’s Ministry of Environment says a rear tanker was “compromised” in the incident. The ministry said that between 6,000 and 8,000 litres of diesel spilled, with some of the fuel making its way into a local creek which drains into the Toad River.

Highway 37, the other road route from British Columbia into the Yukon, was also undergoing avalanche control work yesterday.

Drive B-C says that has concluded, but motorists should be aware of slippery sections along that route.
