The stretch of the Alaska Highway near Fort Nelson is closed once again, due to the nearby Summit Creek wildfire.
The update sent late Friday afternoon said, high winds have increased the fire’s behaviour and it’s expected the highway will be closed for most of the night.
The highway will be closed at 5pm Friday to all traffic at km 485 (hwy 77 junction) and km 648 (Toad River).
The BC Wildfire Service says the blaze is 8,354 hectares in size and is burning out of control about 10 kilometres northeast of Summit Lake.
It is one of two ``wildfires of note’’ in the province and prompted the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality to issue an Evacuation Order on Friday for the Tetsa River Area. An expanded Evacuation Alert is also in effect for the area.
