Police say they have charged a 13-year-old boy with uttering threats after an incident at a school in Sexsmith, last week.

Mounties received a complaint about a student threatening firearm-related violence towards students on June 4.

After speaking with students, a potential suspect was identified, interviewed, and subsequently arrested.

A firearm was seized by officers at the boy’s home.

The teen was remanded into custody and is to appear before the Alberta Youth Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on Wednesday.

Sexsmith is about 127 kilometres southeast of Dawson Creek.
