12 new measles cases reported for Northern BC bringing total for the year to 134

The Northern Health region is reporting 12 new confirmed cases of the measles, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control’s latest update.

The BC CDC has reported 24 cases in the last three days, bringing the total number of cases in the region for the year to 134. The agency has reported in the past 16 probable cases in Northern BC.

There are 4 active cases of the measles currently across British Columbia, all of which are from Northern BC. The total of measles cases in BC is now 174.

Medical experts say the best way to protect yourself after exposure to measles is to get vaccinated with the MMR vaccine. You can contact your local health unit to schedule a vaccination appointment.
