FORT ST. JOHN, B.C - A new Fort St. John charitable giving group is already making a major impact in the community.

The inaugural event for the 100+ Men Who Give a Damn FSJ Society raised and awarded a total of $20,000 to two local organizations during a gathering at The Lido on Thursday night.

Members voted to provide $10,000 to 4U Youth. An additional $10,000 donation from the Fort St. John Professional Fire Fighters Association allowed the group to also donate $10,000 to the Fort St. John Cancer Support Circles Society.

The organization said more than 100 members took part in the evening, which was created to bring together local men interested in supporting community causes through collective giving.

One of the founding members Trevor Bolin praised the generosity shown by residents and supporters from across the Peace Region.

“I am absolutely blown away from the generosity of the residents of Fort St. John, Taylor and the entire region,” said Bolin. “I am equally blown away by the Fire Fighters Association who matched the donations with an additional $10,000, giving the members in attendance the ability to award both of these special organizations $10,000 each.”

“A hundred men got together last night and changed lives all across this region,” added Bolin.

Organizers thanked members, volunteers, The Lido and 100 Women Who Care Fort St. John for helping make the evening possible.

They say the successful launch is only the beginning for the local chapter, which plans to continue supporting charitable organizations in Fort St. John and the surrounding area.
