10 year-old-girl escapes would-be abductor by running away; Grande Prairie man charged

A 50-year-old Grande Prairie man is accused of trying to kidnap a 10-year-old girl.

The girl was walking down a road shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday when she noticed the man following her and ran inside her friend’s house, according to police.

He knocked on the home’s door, trying to convince the homeowner the girl was his sister and to let her out.

Mounties say he then tried to force the door open and was pushed out.

He faces charges of abduction of a person under 14 years old, and mischief under $5,000.

He was conditionally released and is due back in court on April 8 in Grande Prairie.
