Police say one person is dead and another is in the hospital with serious injuries after a crash near Grande Prairie Tuesday morning.
Officers were dispatched to a head-on crash shortly after 8 a.m. on Highway 2 south of Township Road 744 involving two pickup trucks and a semi.
Initial investigation suggests that a pickup heading southbound crossed the centre line and crashed into another pickup heading northbound. A semi was also hit in the collision.
The driver of the southbound truck was given medical attention but was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the other pickup was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The crash closed the highway for several hours.
Road conditions were reported to be extremely icy and may have been a factor in the crash, said police.
