FORT NELSON -- Update: The threat of the Nogah Creek wildfire continues to loom.

As of May 15th, the fire has grown to 74,685 in size, according to the most current information from the BC Wildfire Service.

Inclement weather moving into the Fort Nelson area today will allow crews to move in to continue suppression efforts.

Evacuation orders issued by the municipality and Fort Nelson First Nation remain in place for the area.The Nogah Creek Wildfire continues to burn out of control near Fort Nelson.

The wildfire was discovered on May 5th and is burning in a forested area 60 kilometres east of Fort Nelson. t’s exploded to 2000 hectares in size. 

The BC Wildfire Service says the Nogah Creek Wildfire is displaying extreme fire behaviour.

Because of the intensity of the fire, crews are not fighting it on the ground. The fire will continue to be monitored until fire behaviour diminishes and allows for safe and effective operations.

On Friday the Wildfire Service says a dry cold front arrived in the Fort Nelson area and is bringing wind gusts exceeding 70 km/h at times.

On Saturday, temperatures will cool across the Fort Nelson zone while winds will calm down significantly, but dry conditions will still be present.

Sunday and Monday will see increased cloud cover and slightly higher humidity values with an uptick in winds. An upper trough may be in place on Monday, which would result in cooler conditions in the area.

An Incident Management Team is in place in the Fort Nelson Zone to manage ongoing wildfires. Additional resources are en route and resources are on standby prepared to deal with new incidents in the northeast and throughout the Fire Centre.
