DAWSON CREEK -- Northern Health has issued an alert for possible interruptions at the Dawson Creek hospital this weekend.

The health authority say the possible interruptions will take place from Friday to Monday morning. They are expected to effect emergency surgeries and pregnant mothers who are close to delivering.

A gap in coverage of anesthesiologists is to blame. Eryn Collins, media spokesperson for Northern Health, says maternity patients have been made aware of the situation in addition to physicians, nurses, and maternity wards across the Peace Region.

Collins also said emergency services will be dealt with on a case by case basis during the interruption.

Northern Health is advising mothers who are expecting in the next few days, to still go to the Dawson Creek hospital if needed. Decisions regarding transportation to another medical facility will be made accordingly.
