DAWSON CREEK -- A fugitive on the run for the past 4 months who was wanted for attempted murder, has been arrested by Dawson Creek RCMP.

Mounties have been searching for Jesse Stevens since mid-December. He was wanted on a number of charges including attempted murder and break and enter.

Investigators discovered Steven’s whereabouts last week. He was arrested at a home in Dawson Creek without incident.

Mounties allege that Stevens broke into a home last year and attempted to kill an occupant inside the residence.

Police then asked for the public’s help in finding Stevens.

Stevens has a long and violent criminal history. In June of 2021, he was wanted for Aggravated Assault.

In November 2021 he turned himself into police but was immediately released from custody by a judge.

In the past, he has been found guilty of assault, assault with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer and well as possession of stolen property and controlled substances

Currently Stevens is in police custody in Prince George pending his next court appearance on May 1st.

CJDC TV News reached out to the BC Prosecution Service. Given the BC Government’s new direction given to Crown Prosecutors to detain repeat and violent offenders, we asked if the Crown planned on recommending bail for Stevens. They said there intention was to asked the judge to keep Stevens behind bars.

Despite the specific direction from BC's Attorney General, Judge Ruse is considering whether Stevens can be released back into the public with electronic monitoring.
