FORT ST. JOHN -- Fallout surrounding the future of local BC United candidates continues amid the bombshell announcement to fold the party.

Conservative nominee Jordan Kealy confirming to CJDC-TV that he will not bow out of the race in Peace River North.

"I have zero intention of stepping down… I got into the role as a candidate very specifically to try and help fix this system, and I’ve invested a lot of time, I have had a lot of supporters that have backed me," said Kealy.

Kealy adds he owes his constituents what's best for their values and not have someone come in from another party.

“I’ve seen no reason as to be worried about my candidacy, and I’m going to just keep on going strong like I have been,” said Kealy.

Leader John Rustad will be looking riding-by-riding to determine the best candidates. However, according to Kealy, Rustad has made it clear he will not kick out current members.

“We have a lot more power and influence as to how the decisions are made within our party of who comes into it, so I think that will be a big factor,” says Kealy, who will continue to campaign heading into the October 19th election.

Current Peace River North MLA Dan Davies says discussions on his next steps will take place over the long weekend.

“What’s clear is that BC can’t afford four more years of David Eby’s NDP,” said Davies in a Facebook post on Wednesday. “While there are many details still to come, I want to express my gratitude for the opportunity to serve as your local MLA in Victoria .”

Davies has represented the riding since 2017 and will make an announcement next week on the state of his candidacy.

BC United Leader Kevin Falcon has encouraged those who would’ve voted for the party to get behind the Conservatives.
