Whitehorse RCMP have confirmed two overdue travellers on the Alaska Highway have been reported safe.

On Thursday, police asked the public for help in finding a couple in their early 60s. They were last known to be in Whitehorse until July 20 or 21, 2022, before heading south on the Alaska Highway. Police believed they were travelling back to Alberta.

RCMP said at the time that attempts to contact the couple had been unsuccessful since July 19th. Police had done patrols in areas along the highway and followed up on other leads without locating the couple. Their family had been concerned for their safety.

Police stated that while there had been reports on Thursday that the couple had been found or had been in contact with friends, officers could not close the investigation until they had direct contact with the missing persons.

Mounties thank everyone in BC, Alberta, and the Yukon who have been on alert for the travelers.
