CHETWYND -- A minor has been charged with second degree murder in connection with a suspicious death in Chetwynd Monday.

The accused, who cannot be named due to a publication ban, is being held in police custody pending his next court appearance.

The RCMP telling CJDC TV News that the victim and the suspect knew each other, but did not elaborate as to how.

On Monday, the Chetwynd RCMP responded to a report of a possibly deceased female in a residence in the East Pine area of Chetwynd.

When they arrived at the scene, they found the body of a 57 year old woman inside the residence. The suspect was later arrested without incident.  

North District Major Crimes have taken over the investigation.

"Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident, as a suspect was taken into custody without incident," Sergeant Chris Manseau, media relations officer for the BC RCMP.

"Police have yet to determine a motive and at this time there is nothing to indicate any threat to the public," added Manseau.

The accused next scheduled court appearance is a virtual hearing on March 3rd.
