FORT ST. JOHN -- A wildfire believed to have been sparked by lightning is burning out of control northeast of Fort St. John.
The Nancy Creek wildfire is burning in a forested area less than 20 kilometres from Peejay.
Since being discovered August 11th, 2024, the fire has grown to 12 hectares in size.
According to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), a full response team is battling the blaze. There are currently no area restrictions or evacuation alerts in place.
The wildfire comes on the heels of an increase of lightening sparked fires across the province. 256 new wildfires have started in the last seven days with 83 per cent believed to have been caused by lightening, according to the latest Provincial Report released Sunday by the BCWS.
There are currently 179 wildfires burning in the Prince George Fire Centre with 43 still listed as 'out of control.'
