CHETWYND -- Landline service has been restored to a majority of Telus customers in Chetwynd.

“Service has been restored to a majority of customers, with repair efforts continuing for the remaining impacted services,” said the telecom company in a status update this morning.

The outage affected phone service at the Chetwynd Hospital and Primary Care Clinic earlier this week, but services have now been restored.

“TELUS confirmed that all systems should be working normally and we are not experiencing any remaining concerns,” said Northern Health in a notification to residents.

During the outage, the health authority advised patients who need to contact the facilities to visit in person.

On Monday, technicians were on-site repairing damage to its phone lines in the district following a suspected ‘cable theft.’

Photos posted by the telecom company showed downed wires and what appears to be vandalized cables.

“We recognize how this interruption may impact you, and we appreciate your patience as we work to restore services as quickly as possible,” said Telus.
